Moving a piece can open a bishop, rook or queen’s attack behind it. The moving piece may create a second threat. If the uncovered attack is check, the opponent must answer that check, but may be able to capture the checking piece or block its line.
Uncover a check with your queen
Moving your pawn opens your queen’s line to the king. In this line, the king moves and your pawn takes the queen.
