The Trapped Piece: a theory course

Before attacking a trapped piece, check every escape, capture and trade it could use.

5 lessons, each followed by its own puzzle drill, then 10 themed puzzle packs.

• Piece on the Rim — Limit the escape squares of a piece near the edge.
• The Poisoned Pawn — Calculate the trap before offering a pawn.
• Cover the Escape First — Cover the last safe square before attacking.
• Trap the Queen — Restrict the queen’s escapes before trying to win it.
• Bait the Trap — Offer a target only when the capture leaves the piece trapped.
