Distant and diagonal opposition depend on the king squares and whose turn it is. Count before approaching.

• Distant Opposition — Check the gap and side to move before claiming opposition.
• Keep It As You Close — Approach while accounting for the opponent’s king replies.
• Diagonal Opposition — Compare the kings’ squares along a diagonal.
• The Like Coloured Corner — Use square colors as a counting aid, then verify the king route.
• Convert — Use the route gained by making the defending king move.
