Desperado: a theory course

A piece about to be lost may still capture or force a useful exchange. Count the whole sequence.

• Give It Up for More — Capture something valuable before losing the attacked piece.
• Desperado in the Exchange — Gain extra material before the exchange ends.
• Break Even — Choose the exchange that avoids a material loss.
• Desperado for a Draw — Look for lasting checks before giving up the piece.
• Desperado Removes the Guard — Use the threatened piece to remove a defender.
• The Mutual Desperado — Compare captures when both sides have attacked pieces.
