Give material for a permanent advantage and let time do the rest.
Step 1 of 3
Positional sacrifices
Concept
Positional sacrifices
Give up material for a permanent advantage: bad bishop, weak king, key squares. The hardest sac to play because you sit down material for twenty moves before they finally crack.
Remember
• Positional sac: give material for long-term advantage, not immediate tactics.
• Common types: exchange sac (rook for minor), pawn sac for piece activity.
• Compensation must be permanent: weak king, bad bishop, blocked position.
• Requires confidence: you're behind on the board for a long time.
