The drawing technique when you're a pawn down in R+P vs R.
Step 1 of 3
Philidor Position (defending R+P)
Concept
Philidor Position (defending R+P)
The defender's holding pattern in R+P vs R. Rook on the third rank, king blocking the pawn. When they push, your rook swings to the back rank for endless checks. Draw.
Remember
• Defender: rook on the third rank, king in front of the pawn.
• Hold until the pawn pushes, then swing rook to the back rank for checks.
• Endless checks: draw by 50-move rule or repetition.
• Don't give opposition easily. Stay in the drawing formation.
