The squares your pieces move into and never leave.

Weak Squares & Outposts
Concept
Weak Squares & Outposts
A square no enemy pawn can ever defend. Plant a piece there and you have an outpost: a permanent base. A knight on a strong outpost can be worth more than a rook.
Remember
• Weak square: one that the opponent's pawns can never defend.
• Outpost: your piece on a weak square, supported by your pawn.
• Best outposts sit on the fifth or sixth rank, near the enemy king.
• Knights love outposts. Bishops want open diagonals instead.
