King + Rook vs King mate
The ladder mate. Rook cuts ranks, king takes opposition, the enemy king is forced to the edge and finished. Mates in under sixteen moves every time.
Remember
- • Rook cuts off ranks; kings take opposition with one square between.
- • When the enemy king moves, the rook restricts it further.
- • Drive the king to the edge: that's where mate lives.
- • Don't lose rank control. If the rook gets cut off, restart the technique.
